Vets & Farriers   -   Livery Charges

At Elvingston we strive to provide your mare with the highest possible standard of care.  Very experienced and responsible staff care for the horses.  You can rest assured that your horse will be treated as an individual and handled with the greatest care and respect.  We aim to keep horses calm, stress-free and happy throughout their stay, with welfare being our top priority.  We have 24 hour supervision, and are privileged to be in a very quiet, secluded and secure location.

The fields are securely fenced with white electric fencing and plain wire.  Each field is a minimum of 2 acres, and has plenty of shelter, shade, a broad-spectrum mineral lick and automatic water trough.  The fencing and water is routinely checked every day, and the grazing is regularly rotated to keep it fresh and nutritious.  Restricted grazing available is required.

All horses are wormed on arrival, and every 6 weeks thereafter.  The horses are checked thoroughly twice daily, and have their hooves picked out.  Mares are turned out in pairs with a suitable match after a couple of days individual turnout to allow them to settle after arrival (no extra charge).  Individual turnout can be provided for the mare if preferred.  If your mare requires extra hard feed, medication or supplements, she will be brought into a stable each day to eat in peace.

Mares are taken for foaling.  We also take horses and ponies for backing, schooling, sales preparation and selling.  Please call or e-mail (click here for contact details) to discuss your requirements.

Vets & Farriers

Should the staff feel your horse requires veterinary treatment every effort will be made to contact you immediately to inform you of the situation.  We use Gordon Vets based in Musselburgh who have been our vets for over 20 years.

We are located a short drive from the University of Edinburgh Royal (Dick) Veterinary School and have a close working relationship with Matt Hanks MRCVS, the Equine Reproduction Specialist.  The Bush has a state of the art equine breeding unit and all the latest technology should your mare require it.

We use Ruaridh Robb Farriers who specialise in remedial shoeing, and have been our trusted farriers for over 15 years.
